- Don't overload plug sockets
- Regularly check for worn or frayed wires
- Unplug appliances when not in use
- Keep appliances clean and in good working order (see below)
- Consider using a Residual Current Device (a device which protects against electric shocks and reduces the risk of electrical fires)
- Keep electric fires away from curtains and furniture and never use them for drying clothes

- Easy access must always be available to the electrical supply isolator for the fire whether it is a plug socket or fixed fused spur.
